The most common deficiency I see in clinical practice is magnesium.
Magnesium is required for 300+ metabolic processes in the body.
Here are some signs of low magnesium levels:
- sugar cravings
- blood sugar imbalances
- high blood pressure
- muscle cramps and “Charleyhorses”
- sleep issues
- brain fog
There are several forms of magnesium, and depletions can take months to restore. If you are depleted, food won’t be enough, but please be sure to eat lots of fruit, greens, nuts, and seeds.
If your magnesium is low, other minerals are likely low as well. Since magnesium requires strong stomach acid production, zinc, iron, calcium, and B12 deficiencies must also be considered.
To determine your levels, you can self-order the only accurate test for magnesium, the RBC magnesium test. Your values should be in the upper end of the range because the average person (to whom you are being compared) is quite low.
